Screening, weighing & mixing
Hot elevator, screening and weighing
The part of a batch plant that lifts hot aggregate, splits it by size and weighs every component for each batch.
This is what makes a batch plant a batch plant. Hot aggregate is lifted to the top of the tower, screened into size fractions and stored in hot bins. For every batch, the control system weighs each fraction, the filler and the bitumen on separate scales.
Because every component is weighed, recipes can change between batches and each batch can be recorded — the reason batch plants are preferred where specifications are strict.
How it works
- 01
Lifting
An enclosed chain bucket elevator carries hot aggregate from the dryer to the screen.
- 02
Screening
A multi-deck vibrating screen splits the aggregate into fractions and rejects oversize.
- 03
Hot bins
Each fraction waits in its own compartment, with overflow chutes for surplus.
- 04
Weighing
Aggregate, filler and bitumen are weighed separately, with coarse and fine feeding.
- 05
Recording
Target and actual weights are stored for every batch.
Common configurations
Enclosed screen
Sealed housing connected to dust extraction.
Load-cell scales
Independent hoppers for aggregate, filler and bitumen.
Coarse / fine feeding
Gates slow down near the target weight for better accuracy.
Tell us before we quote
- Mix types and the hot fractions they need

- How scales will be calibrated and checked
Check before ordering
- Space above the screen for changing screen decks
- Dust extraction and temperature sensors at the screen
- Flexible connections and vibration isolation at the scales
- Accuracy stated with its test method, not just a number
Questions
Does a drum plant have hot screening?
A conventional drum mix plant does not. Aggregate is proportioned cold and dried and mixed in one drum, which is why cold feed accuracy matters more there.
How is weighing accuracy proven?
With calibration using test weights and repeat batches during commissioning. The method and allowed range should be written into the acceptance terms.
