Bitumen storage & processing
Bitumen emulsion plant
A separate unit that produces bitumen emulsion for tack coats, prime coats and road maintenance.
Emulsion is bitumen dispersed in water with an emulsifier. It is not needed to make hot mix, but road contractors use it for tack and prime coats and maintenance, so many buy an emulsion unit alongside the asphalt plant.
The unit prepares the water (soap) phase, meters it with hot bitumen into a colloid mill, and pumps the emulsion to storage.
How it works
- 01
Soap phase
Water, emulsifier and acid or alkali are mixed and heated.
- 02
Metering
Hot bitumen and soap phase are dosed in the set ratio.
- 03
Milling
A colloid mill shears the bitumen into fine droplets.
- 04
Storage
Finished emulsion is pumped to storage tanks.
Common configurations
Batch soap preparation
Simple and flexible for several emulsion types.
Continuous unit
For steady production.
Containerized unit
Built into a frame for shipping and quick setup.

Questions
Do I need an emulsion plant to produce hot mix asphalt?
No. Emulsion is a separate product for coats and maintenance. Buy the unit only if you use or sell emulsion.
